I will have 2 5U rack mount servers with one being a backup. This server will become a media server. As I invest in my media library, I will have multiple TV shows and movies – all within the LAN?. While I don’t own digital media beyond music, I will definitely change that. I will want to own my media and not just rent them at the provider’s whim, and rental agreements. Another benefit to owning and downloading my media is I will be able to watch the content without having to go on whims of the internet. If both of my ISP?s are down for any reason, then storing the video content locally will just make more sense.
As with the NAS, the largest hard drives will be invested into the media server, and I will use RAID-5 for redundancy. Since I will likely only have one building, I will not have a second place to store the second media server. The media server will grow as needed, and I will also hope I can install a Blu-Ray writer into the media server in case I bought a Blu-Ray, I can import that movie as well.
